Transformed!… We had a first glimpse of what Bournemouth Close could be with just a few simple changes.
This is what it started out like…drab and dreary, prone to fly tipping and bags of rubbish left for foxes to pull apart. The odd drug deal was known to take place in these quarters too and it has been known to be used as a toilet, fairly regularly.
Then, as we were all feeling a bit green after too many Easter eggs, Gourmandizing were beginning to make their mark on the garages, just a lick of paint changed the space so much…
Inspired by recipes gathered from the people of Rye Lane and supported by a raft of wonderful volunteers the murals emerge…
Next, plans sown in March, were coming to fruition. With the help of Holly, Nick and Siva the raised beds were ready for planting with seedlings on the Saturday fun day.
On the fun day itself the sun stayed with us pretty much all day, with barely a rain drop felt. Over 50 people came out to enjoy the games, the arts and crafts,
and the garden…
But most of all they came out for the food! Thanks to Simon who created a feast in his Street Kitchen, cooking up jerk chicken and ribs on the BBQ and the dish everyone was talking about, his Brazilian Fish Stew! Delicious.
It was a great day, thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make it happen and to the gang of kids from Atwell Estate who helped us set up and pack away!
If you would like to help keep the garden watered and tended please contact hannah on firstname.lastname@example.org and make sure you can come to the Pocket Places Peckham Spaces event on Saturday 7th June when Bournemouth Close will come alive again in a BIG way!
