Pocket Places Peckham has teamed up with Peckham Platform to commission an artist to create a wonderful artwork to animate the walls leading in to Choumert Grove Car Park from Rye Lane.
During the summer we trialled this idea and we were lucky enough to hear about some work that Helen Peacock had already done in the area. Helen had created a piece of artwork using the silhouettes of people as they passed along Rye Lane across the end of the corridor. Together we developed a way in which we could apply her existing prints to this huge wall space and create a participatory piece of artwork alongside it. The result was a beautiful paste-up mural and the lasting impressions of those that enjoyed it on the day of the Pocket Places Peckham Spaces trial event in June 2014.
The trial was a resounding success, with a feeling that it livened up a space that was slowly deteriorating. As a trial Helen’s work was never intended to remain in the space for long and so it is slowly coming down. In its place we will soon see the walls repaired ready for a new artwork due for installation in Spring 2015.

We look forward to lots of brilliant applications, selection will take place in the new year.
